Today is “Blog for Choice” day. The choice in question is the right for a woman to have an abortion. A touchy subject for a lot of people, but I’m going to blog about it anyway. And then I’m going to blog about some other stuff too.
I think abortion should be legal. Every woman should have the right to choose whether or not it is the right choice for her. So many people and groups swear it’s evil, and it’s wrong. You’ll go to hell if you do it. You’ll regret it for the rest of your life. Maybe you will. Maybe you won’t. I don’t know because I haven’t been there. But to take a decision so personal away from someone? That’s wrong.
Take away the right to choose and the right to dress ourselves as we like or the right to shave our legs or not shave them may as well be taken as well. Our bodies are ours. They don’t belong to our government or some group that thinks they have the only correct answer. Our bodies are our own flesh and blood. Let us choose what to do with them.
Anyway, that said, you might notice a few changes here. I updated WordPress today and found upon upgrading that I need to read up and see which of my beloved plug-ins actually work with the new version before I update. Luckily, all the important ones seem to work, except for the one that turned my archives into a jump menu. That however, was fixed by using this really nifty little plug-in called Compact Archives. As you can see, it makes a nice little listing of the archives in the simplest form, taking up very little space. The hardest part on installing it was negotiating K2′s sidebar modules and finding the one labeled “PHP module” and realizing I needed to use it, not an HTML or Text module. Sometimes my brain doesn’t quite make all the synaptic responses it should.
My totally awesome birthday present this year? Glorie and all three kids will be picked up that night and on their way to live in Riverside with some girl named Alex. I think they’ll be okay though. She sounds very knowledgeable, and able to learn anything she doesn’t know, but it still makes me sad.

Freedom is wonderful thing.
A woman has and should have, a right to do whatever she wants with her own body. However just as one man’s freedom of expression ends six inches from the personal space of any other man including and perhaps especially a man of differing/opposite alignment so too should that right end in relation to that of the unborn.
The idea, let alone practice, of partial birth abortion is reprehensible. Your talking about a practice where the difference is that if a nurse were to reach and tug the leg of the child so it could draw breath it has rights, but so long as the head doesn’t clear the birth canal it doesn’t? RIDICULOUS.
Lets consider a few of the arguments:
If you attack me with a knife it is assault but an unborn child doesn’t have the right be defended?
The right to do with “our bodies” huh?
Lets consider the biological science of this for a moment:
A woman provides an egg.
A man provides a sperm.
When these meet they form a Zygote.
Is this a sperm? No. How about an egg? Wrong again.
Does the genetic DNA identically match either parent? No. Its made from half of each and matches neither. (Excepting incest where this MAY be possible, but lets leave that aside for the time being.)
Within days it has brain waves and weeks a heartbeat.
A parasite? Yes. Unable to live outside the womb? Thats factual too, to a point. “A woman’s body”? Not by any stretch of the imagination.
Abortion is the most perverse act of selfishness ever conceived (pun intended, of course:-) by humanity and the most reprehensible. In nearly every case adoption is a much better option.
What about the health of the mother? In every situation there is an
extreme possibility where the standard rules may not apply, congratulations you found one.
If abortion were made illegal women would find other ways where thing would not be sterile or safe and it could risk their lives and safety.
Here is where you’ll probably begin to dislike me (if you haven’t already), but…
So what? If a group of irresponsible, selfish women want to do something stupid and get them selves killed or ruin their reproductive capabilities… GREAT. They removed themselves from the gene pool and the world will likely be better off for it. To many stupid breeding nowadays anyway.
What do you think?
Excellent points. I almost forgot to make my post until it was pretty close to the next day, so arguments were small in coming. Personally, I think it’s wrong because that is a separate life, and even in terms of thinking of it as a parasite, it is still another life.
I don’t think abortion is right. And I definitely do not think it should ever be used as a form of birth control. “[Too] many stupid breeding nowadays anyway.
” When people are irresponsible, and use abortion as a way to “fix” their mistake, they deserve the consequences. Last I checked there’s a whole world of ways to prevent pregnancy in the first place.
But it all comes down to the fact that I think we should all get to make that choice for ourselves.
And dislike you? Psh. You have opinions and express them clearly and without getting a big nasty attitude over a touchy subject. If I didn’t dig you already for your über-geek qualities, I would now.
A woman should have the right to choose. There shouldn’t have to be a justification. Every woman should have her reproductive rights respected! Fight the conservative power my sisters! What do middle aged, rich, christian men know about rape, incest, or it being the wrong time to raise a kid? They wanna teach abstinence and limit our access to birth control and then prohibit abortion?! You do the math.
Vida-Marie, I dare you to sit through and watch all the video clips on this website and especially the one here. If you have no feelings at all, do not be surprised if others question just what kind of human being you really are – besides selfish and inhumane.
The time for a woman to choose was before intercourse, not after. If she was forced, then there are other questions to be posed and answered – but abortion is seldom the best answer unless perhaps the mother’s own life is seriously endangered.
Want to think about it a little more?
Choose abortion as your so-called “woman’s right” but know ALL of the consequences before you do so. The other side you spurn might just have more right on it’s side than wrong.

Women who want to have an abortion will find a way to have one whether people approve or not. So why not make it safe for them?
Another excellent point. People will do what they want to, often at a very high expense, and I don’t mean monetarily.
