STICK INCENSE, INCENSE CONES & HAND-BLENDED RESIN INCENSE FOR EVERY NEED
All of our incense sticks are hand-rolled in India. Brands we stock such as Satya produce their items in the masala tradition with deep roots in Indian spirituality.
We also stock standard incense cones, which can be burned on plates without the need for a specialised stick incense burner, as well as backflow incense cones, which can be used with waterfall and backflow burners to create a flowing "waterfall" smoke effect as they burn.
Our incense powders can be mixed with other herbs and resins or burnt alone on charcoal discs, and even mixed with other powders to produce unique blends!
For more traditional scents ideal for Wiccan and Pagan rituals or meditation, customers can choose from nag champa, Oudh, dragons blood, sandalwood, frankincense, myrrh, palo santo and white sage. If you'd prefer incense for the scent rather than for ritual purposes, we also have uplifting and layered varieties including fruity blends, lavender, rose, jasmine, and even Vampire Blood! These are available across our stick, powder and cone varieties so simply choose the form you prefer.
As a part of our Aether brand, we also produce resins in house, hand-blended with organic flowers and herbs. Our blends include go away evil, light, darkness and elemental blends in small and large vials.
INCENSE FAQs
WHY SHOULD I BURN INCENSE?
The burning of incense is an ancient tradition shared by cultures across the world and is still practised today, seen in religions including Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shinto and Christianity.
To put it simply, when burnt, the incense imbues the smoke with unique properties which are believed to ward off spirits and purify the air. Wiccan and Pagan practitioners burn incense to use the smoke for cleansing, psychic awakening and to prepare their bodies for rituals.
People also choose to burn incense simply to appreciate the scent or create a light atmosphere in their homes. It's also been shown that the smoke can relieve anxiety and stress, so why not have a go at burning some in your home?
IS BURNING INCENSE BAD FOR YOU?
Incense has been burned by different cultures across the world for thousands of years and is a largely safe practice. We stock brands such as Satya, New Moon, Green Tree and Nandita who are renowned for using natural ingredients with no artificial additives. The risks when using incense are minimal, although do keep in mind that you will be inhaling smoke when burning incense regularly. This means that you will need to take great care if you're asthmatic, have allergies or have other breathing issues. If you're concerned about inhaling smoke, you can try non-smoking alternatives like incense oil. If you're unsure about incense blends, smudging with singular herbs such as white sage is also a great alternative.
WHAT IS INCENSE MADE OF?
Stick and cone incenses are made of a fragrant blend of botanicals, herbs, wood, and various fragrance oils. Some of the most popular ingredients include sandalwood, frankincense, myrrh, musk, patchouli and lavender.
Resin incense is largely derived from hardened beads of tree saps from trees such as copal, dammar and styrax. These are then occasionally blended with fragrance oils. Resin incense is made to be burnt on a charcoal disc in cauldrons and brass burners.
WHICH INCENSE IS BEST FOR CLEANSING?
The best incense for cleansing will depend mostly upon your preferences but here are the most popular choices for cleansing:
Frankincense is an excellent all-purpose cleansing incense, with a sweet scent that has been used since ancient times. Burn to cleanse your body before rituals and banish negative energy from your space.
Dragons blood is one of our most popular scents, and you will see why as soon as you burn it. It's a healing and soothing scent, ideal for burning after you've been ill and to encourage good health.
White sage has been used by Native Americans in smoke cleansing ceremonies for hundreds of years. It removes negative vibrations from the body and the air, making it a versatile cleansing scent.
