HAPPY PRIDE MONTH, TRAGICS!

At Tragic Beautiful, we're proud to be a safe space for LGBT+ people and s*x workers: we know many of our wonderful customers are members within these communities, and many of us at TBHQ are too!

To celebrate Pride Month and International S*x Workers' Day, we wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thanks to all of you and give back.

We've teamed up with two amazing local artists, Lauren Davidson and MHG, to create two stunning artworks to be printed on beautiful, full-colour tapestries. The proceeds from the sale of these tapestries will be donated to two amazing charities doing awesome things for LGBT+ people and s*x workers: LGBTIQ+ Health Australia and Respect Inc. Both of these tapestries are pre-order items which we hope to receive within the next 30 days to ship out.

Read on to check out the tapestries we've created, the charities they're supporting and learn a little bit about the talented artists behind them.

RAINBOW HERBOLOGY BY LAUREN DAVIDSON

This gorgeous tapestry is saturated in all the colours of the rainbow! Lauren was inspired by queer history and witchcraft when creating their piece; each herbology element represented has ties to the history of witchcraft and all of the herbal items depicted have floriographical meanings tied to the meanings behind each colour of the Pride flag.

ABOUT LAUREN: Lauren Davidson (they/them) is a Meanjin (Brisbane) based artist whose practice focuses on relationships with, and within, the natural world. Raised in the rainforest, Davidson tinkers with vibrant tones whilst interrogating extinction crises, existential dilemmas, and the intricacies of identity and love. Witchcraft, Floriolography and Fae Fauna feature heavily. Playful and vibrant though they are, each of Davidson’s works participates in a subtle but ever-present mythology centred on everyday magic. Check out their Instagram and website for more!

The proceeds of Lauren's tapestry sales will go to LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, an organisation dedicated to the vision of healthy lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans/transgender, intersex, and other sexuality, gender, and bodily diverse people and communities throughout Australia and the world, free from stigma and discrimination. Their efforts include peer-to-peer support, supporting aging LGBTIQ+ individuals, mental health support, disability inclusion and palliative care. Check out their website to learn more.

MY BODY, MY RULES BY MHG

MHG's tapestry is a bold statement and celebration of bodily autonomy. In a world constantly trying to convince s*x workers, LGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent people that they do not have the rights to their own bodies, this piece is a small and gentle reminder that though we cannot control these outside circumstances, safety and love can and should always be a priority in our communities, and within ourselves. Check out their work on their Instagram and website!

ABOUT MHG: MHG (they/them) is a non-binary FSSW and creative from Meanjin. They work primarily with film photography and collage, creating images that explore themes of mental health, sexuality and surviving in a world that often feels like it thrives on hate and fear.

The proceeds of MHG's tapestry sales will be donated to Respect Inc, a Brisbane based organisation dedicated to the health, protection and respect of past and present s*x workers. Respect Inc's work includes the dissemination of information about the s*x industry, working to guarantee the rights of all s*x workers, and challenging repressive legislation or action against the rights of s*x workers.  The work of both artists will also be featured on postcards this month!
