Longlegs (2024)
Reviewed by Exxy
"If you're into dark, haunting stories that linger in your mind long after the lights go out, Longlegs is the film for you. Directed by the master of eerie atmospheres, Osgood Perkins, this movie is a chilling blend of horror, suspense, and psychological drama.
The story follows FBI agent Lee Harker, played by Maika Monroe, who finds herself trapped in a nightmare of a case. The elusive figure known as "Longlegs" is more than just a shadow—he’s a creeping presence that invades both her waking hours and dreams. Monroe’s performance is intense and relatable, portraying a woman torn between fear and duty, making her a character you'll both root for and fear for.
And let’s talk about Nicolas Cage as Longlegs himself. He’s not your typical horror villain. Cage brings a terrifying yet tragic edge to the character, making Longlegs a figure of dread and sorrow. You’ll find yourself looking over your shoulder long after the movie ends.
The atmosphere is pure gothic gold. From the shadowy settings to the eerie, almost suffocating silence, Longlegs is a movie that knows how to build tension. The cinematography is a feast for those who love their horror with a side of melancholy beauty. Every frame is designed to make you feel the creeping dread, the isolation, and the weight of the secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Longlegs isn’t about cheap scares—it’s about diving deep into the darkness of the human mind. If you’re the kind of girl who loves a good, slow-burn thriller that messes with your head and sticks with you, this is the movie to watch. So grab your favourite black outfit, get comfy, and prepare for a haunting experience."
Slay (2024)

"Slay is a 2024 horror comedy about an amazing group of Drag Queens accidentally booked to perform at the dingiest bar one could imagine. When all hell breaks loose the unwelcoming patrons turn to the Drag Queens to save the day.
It is an amazing find for a Tubi movie, with well-timed jokes, great action, and it even tugs at the heartstrings. It has everything for comedy fans, horror fans and for those who love wholesome queer representation. Likewise, it doesn’t let its Tubi budget stop it from big ideas and big laughs. It even leans in to its small budget to make a great joke about if the Drag Queens were in a movie about this situation there is no way they’d be able to afford the special effects for a scene.
While all the actors were amazing - Heidi N Closet as Robin Banks stood out as a star with a beautifully told love story. Crystal Method as Bella Dave Boys is a silly character who keeps up the humour even when everyone else turns to the horror of the movie, she is amazing beside Cara Melle’s Olive Wood who plays the serious and practical character. Out of all the queens, Olive Wood is the one who goes through the biggest change, and shows us how badass it looks to kill vampires in heels. Trinity the Tuck as Mama Sue Flay is the fearless leader who is cliché and campy - but perfect for the movie. Most of the well-timed jokes are between Mama and the bar patrons, a rough group of men and two super excited queer townsfolk. The dialogue written for the drag queens could have been done with more consultation but the character development of the bar patrons was so heartwarming and well done.
The horror element is a classic with vampires wreaking havoc amongst the townspeople. The vampires are your classic vampires, nothing sparkly about them, until one of our beloved Queens is bitten that is. Slay uses suspense well for a horror comedy and leans on a lot of tropes of horror and queer films. My favourite being that one of the rowdy bar patrons doesn’t want to kill their vampire best friend, showing the first signs of their beautiful character development.
It’s a fun, campy film with great horror elements. I have recommended this movie to everyone I meet, if they like horror or not, and I’m recommending it to you too.
Even if you aren’t a fan of horror comedy you should check Slay out, you will not find this kind of quality from an ad supported horror movie anywhere else. I hope Slay’s success leads to more queer horror and more free, accessible and good quality horror in the future."
Would You Rather (2012)
Reviewed by Ruthie Wyndham
"I don’t know if I’m a sick f*ck, but when Instagram reels of Would You Rather started showing on my discovery page, my curiosity was piqued – and I’m very glad I watched it!
It’s such an intense film, where a rich man with a moustache - Shepard Lambrick (played by Jeffrey Combs), tracks down people in need of money, and then uses this to force them to play a high-stakes, morally dilemmatic, twisted game of Would You Rather. The basis of this movie is founded on the idea that it doesn’t really matter why somebody needs money, whether for themselves or for someone else – you all have a price, and you will dissolve all of your ethics, all of your boundaries, all of your discipline and humanity and sense of community in order to survive and win this game. This was so messed-up, but I LOVED the premise. And contrary to most R-rated horror films, this one didn’t rely on excessive gore, had minimal swearing, no nudity (However TW for attempted SA, so watchers beware)– and yet it was terrifying.
When it comes to horror movies, this is exactly what I keep saying – a lot of so-called R-rated horrors are sacrificing storylines for blood and swearing and naked bodies, and those things aren’t scary. Psychology is, though. Messing with somebody’s mind always is. Pushing someone beyond their limits without giving them a single chance – and they come through anyway? I love it! I also loved the twist at the ending for Would You Rather – it gives me a lot to think about, as well as the game itself.
Very fascinating, and I admired the villain with the moustache!"
