Framed Fruit Bat Skull | Last Chance
See below for more information, but we will not be bringing in any future bats; these are the last we have available, and this is the last chance to obtain an ethically sourced bat skull from us. We only had a couple left, so we framed them to display them beautifully.
Forest Short-nosed Fruit Bat, Minute Fruit Bat (Cynopterus minutus).
Skull Size: These skulls are approximately 30-35mm long, and 20mm wide.
It has been framed inside a shadowbox, on a black background to contrast with the skull. It has a large, dramatic black matt border. Perfect to display on your curiosities shelf, cabinet or wall.
These frames are 6" x 6" Frame: Height: 17.5cm Width: 17.5cm
The back of the shadow box frame has a hook for hanging on the wall and a stand for displaying on a surface. A glass front protects your specimen from dust.
Bat Specimens & Sourcing
We understand that offering bat skeletons and skulls can raise ethical concerns, and rightfully so. For that reason, we rarely offer these specimens and take great care in sourcing when we do.
We source these exclusively from a single, long-term supplier we have vetted. This individual travels directly to rural regions where bats are sometimes culled in small numbers by local communities as part of traditional, small-scale pest control. Instead of allowing these remains to go to waste, the locals sell them for a small profit, supporting their livelihoods in a sustainable, low-impact way. Our supplier, who collects and sells insects from these areas, purchases these remains. We purchase these bats with the snakes, insects and birds we also stock from him.
No bats we stock are killed in bulk or by cruel means. The only species we carry are common species that are classified as “Least Concern” under conservation guidelines and not CITES listed. Every specimen is treated with the care and respect it deserves.
Because of our strict ethical policy, we very rarely offer bat specimens for sale. We spend a considerable amount of time researching our sources. We appreciate the comments and emails regarding this issue. I have spoken to my supplier multiple times to find out further information for people who had queries.
I have a lot of trouble understanding the difference between the bats, and the lizards, snakes and birds that we sell from the exact same communities. They are all culled for food or pest control, and we purchase the remains. But due to the issues around bats, we will decline any future purchases.
